January 22, 2010These are some of the latest I have. We are still placing the money given through Bahama Mission into the hands of brethren in Nassau, Bahamas, and Kingston, Jamaica. And some to David Vanderpool for meds for his team in Haiti. If it continues to come in, we will also give some to the elders at West Broward to be used through Joe Worndle. David Latest New From Haiti Efforts:From Gary Nix, Missions Deacon at West Broward in Ft. Lauderdale Forida, Joe Worndle is a missionary in Haiti and sponsored by West Broward. This is a series of emails Joe and I wrote back and forth to each other regarding personal safety. Joe is being very cautious and I am encouraging him to do this. Some people have asked why Joe doesn't just go down there to Port-au-Prince. This helps explain the situation. The news in the U.S. isn't reporting this but more that 150 aid workers have been hurt or worse by desperate Haitians trying to get food and water. Extreme caution must be used. it isn't safe to drive at night because of pirates who wait for cars and trucks on some of the roads between the cities. all traveling must be done during the day. Gary Nix But the church he preaches for, the LaMentin church was destroyed killing 150 of the members as they had gathered for Bible study. Make sure to only send funds to reputable agencies and those who are directly in touch with people in Haiti they know personally. From Roberta Edwards, missionary to Haiti Today, Richard and I took a turn around the city. Not very long but very sad. People are doing their best to leave the city and go out to the country. Wounded are on the side of the road not far from the dead. People are begging every motorist to please give them a free ride "somewhere." They don't care where you are going, they just want to get out of town. I spoke with the preacher in Citie Soliel today. The church building is destroyed. Members of the church are sleeping in a field. I gave them one of our carport tents that Global Manna donated. It is 12 X 20 and should provide cover for many. We hope to bring food to them tomorrow at the latest. The preacher is trying to help with logistics so that we can deliver the food safely and efficiently. My girls bagged 800 lbs of rice today and put it in bags to be distributed. (A total of 2,000 lbs. have been distributed.) They are putting soap, combs, shoes, matches and a few other odds and ins to help those in need. We will send these out tomorrow I can only pray. Dr. David Vanderpool Mobile Medical Disaster Relief: David is a member of the Church in Brentwood Tn. (I have given some to David for meds.) This is part of a phone call. ", its David Vanderpool...I'm in Port-au-Prince. it's awful, you wouldn't believe the scene I am looking at - they are burning bodies in the streets just to get rid of them. I am completely out of anesthetic and am having to perform amputations just to save their lives, it is so painful. There are still 150 people waiting for surgery that have been here for a week that we can't get to fast enough. There are cries still coming from the rubble a week later. I am desperate for help." david www.flyingpreacher.com |
