Dinah and I wish each of you a Happy New Year. It is our prayer that we can continue to have health and opportunities to share the message of hope with those we contact. We have been busy traveling and visiting with supporters and friends over the holiday period. There have been a number of baptisms this past month, and studies continue to take place in many of the congregation. We are proud to welcome our new granddaughter McKenleigh Faith Caskey born on the 19th of December. She weighed in at 8 lbs. 2 oz. We have had two deaths this past week in Marsh Harbour. Brother Leathron Major died in his sleep early on the morning of the first. He had been to the midnight service at the building. He had led a prayer, given everyone a big hug and gone home to rest about 1:30 a.m. His daughter Cypranna found him early the next morning. His funeral with be on the 12th. McDonald Burrows from Long Island is coming up for the funeral and will be the guest speaker on Sunday morning. I had baptized Leathron a couple of years ago in Long Island. I had known him for many years. Long Island was his home, but he lived part of the time with his daughter and son-in-law in Marsh Harbour. He was very faithful. We all remember his love of humor and his friendly handshakes and smile. He sat near the door so that he could greet all visitors as they arrived. John Roberts died in Nassau at the hospital yesterday morning. John had been my friend for more than 25 years. He was just 57. I had preached his wife's funeral a couple of years ago. John had worked at the Bank for many years, and then became the town handyman. He could fix and repair almost anything. The appointment that we all have with death forces us to think and act on our relationship to the Master. I like most Piper pilots have had problems with the alternator and charging system on the plane. I have changed out the alternator for a new one. Until recently we could only rebuild the old ones, and after 40 years of rebuilding they were failing. Tomorrow will be the first trip in the plane after the change in equipment. I am hopeful that we have solved the problem. Frank and Bea Sarver are due to arrive in Marsh Harbour on Thursday and will be here until March 20th. The congregation is excited to welcome them back for the 16th year. |
