Bahama Mission Update
August 29, 2006

This will be a quick update as we prepare for the arrival of "Ernesto" later tonight and tomorrow. Dinah and I flew to Florida yesterday to get the plane in a hanger. The erratic movements of this storm and the rapidly changing tract has made it hard to predict. The latest report a few minutes ago at 5:00 a. m. shows the path coming through the center of Florida. This will be the ninth storm to hit Florida in the past two years. The winds are forecast to be lower than expected with rainfall in the area of 5 to 10 inches. In Haiti the rainfall was 20 inches with mudslides. Some of these storms that seem to have lower intensity can be very damaging. "Wilma" last year was a Cat.1, but destroyed 1500 houses in Grand Bahama Island. We always prepare for the worst and pray for the best.

Some of you have asked about Dinah. She is much improved but has a long haul ahead. The specialist gave her another 3 months of medications on the last visit and warned her that nothing will happen quickly. She is due to go back at the end of September for a progress check. She still has problems hearing out of the right ear, but the infections have not reoccurred.

Lincoln Young is recovering from a sever bout of illness. He has some new programs for the Youth of the Island starting now as schools resume in the Islands. Still not report on the tests that were run on Ann Sands. The Eleuthera congregation has had a very exciting summer with groups from both the States and the Bahamas there to help.

Steve McQueen has had a busy summer with special programs and the Christian Day Camp. We are most pleased that the second week of camp was staffed with Bahamians and that several of the Island congregations contributed to cost of the camp. Steve is now looking at beginning a local radio program to help with outreach and contact.

Dinah and I are both very encouraged with what we are experiencing in Abaco. They have activities several times a week that include visitation, studies, Bible Classes, and periods of fellowship. A number of the men including new converts have really stepped forward and are most active. Jason and Katrinka are staying very busy. Katrinka got her reports back from her MRI, and has some problems, but they do not seem as serious as first thought. She continues to have some checkups and tests. Jason had a fine lesson Sunday morning, and I spoke on Sunday night. The congregations continues special contibutions for their building fund, and is working to upgrade the present building. After more than 20 years some things just wear out.

Please keep us and all of those in the path of the storms as we hit the peak of this Hurricane Season. We are thankful for your support and concern. Checks can be made to Bahama Mission Church of Christ, and sent:
