Most of us are aware of the death toll and damage caused by Ivan in the Gulf States. Our prayers are with the victims.
Jeanne has set her sights on the Bahamas again, and then perhaps into Florida and or on a more northly course into the US.
Gladwyn in Jamaica reports: 20 dead, More than a dozen of our church buildings damaged, 2 destroyed. Many of our brethren with roofs off, Jamaica School of Preaching significent damage to the Dorm/Dinning area. School is closed. Drinking water, food in short supply. Power still out.
Still no word from the brethren in Cayman, but Gladwyn gives this report:
"The Cayman islands was totally devastated. News we have received from Cayman indicates the islands were totally devasted. It is said that the during the storm, the island whose highest hill is 80 feet above sea leval, was almost totally engulfed by the ocean. All residents survived by going to the top of multi-story buildings or higher ground. Hence, thank God no one is reported to have lost their lives. However, because to the destruction of homes amd businesses many people are fleeing the island for Jamaica and the USA until the island gets back on its feet. Members of the church have suffered loss but all, to my knowlwedge, are safe. Land telephones services are down but cell phones still operate."
Many of you have responded with help and prayers. We are thankful. Our shipment to Freeport has been delayed due to trucking companies cancelling out on hauling the container from Nashville to West Palm for shipment to the Island. Efforts are continuing to get this much needed shipment of water and food to the brethren. Brethren in the Bahamas have been trying to get water and food to Freeport. The Church in Abaco sent two men in a small boat over miles of ocean with supplies. They are home safe after delivery. Brethren in Nassau have also been helping Freeport. Other Islands are damaged, but all to my knowledge have food and water. Our deep concern now is them getting another hit from Jeanne on top of their weakened condition.
