Bahama Mission Hurricane Report Update #1
September 5, 2004

Quick report: Dinah and I are fine. We hunkered down in our hall all night as we were hit with 105 mph winds gusting higher. Damage is light to us. 2 million customers without power. Much more damage and flooding in Florida all around us. We were in the large eye for about 4 hours as this thing just drifted. We are under curfew and do not expect to be able to go outside to check for other damage before late today or in the morning.

Little to report out of the Bahamas. No phone service. Did get a report from Freeport Radio before it went off the air. 1 killed and 40 injured in Freeport. Flooding and a good deal of structural damage. Airport flooded.

Abaco: Winds of more than 100 mph and downpours for several days. Much flooding, less structural damage than in Floyd in 1999. Rowboats reported in the roads. No real news about the brethren yet.

Exuma and Long Island should have had less damage than other places, but no news.

Expect that the news from Cat and Eleuthera will not be as good. Looked like the Deveaux family had it sit on them for 24 hours. Lincoln had people with him and was to be holed up under the balcony in the building in Rock Sound.

Nassau was on the West side and should have done a little better.

Having said that, I know that there was a lot of damage and flooding and that these people will need help. Usually we ship and fly help to them from Florida. That is going to be difficult with all of the East coast of Florida damaged like it is.

Hurricane Ivan is following and should be in the area by next week-end. Our prayers are that it does not follow the path of Francis.

If you want to help, Send checks to

We plan to try and help our brethren first, then old people next.

Pray for all the victims in the Bahamas and Florida and where ever this thing goes next.
