Dinah and I are making plans to go back to Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee and Alabama to speak and make reports to our supporting congregations and individuals. This is not only a Biblical concept, but builds relationships and gives continuity to the work being done. Those who give and those on the field work together and God gives the increase.
Frank and Bea Sarver have gone back home after another very busy and successful evangelistic trip to Marsh Harbour. In twelve years ( times 10 weeks each year) they have spent a total of more than two years teaching and helping. We are so thankful to and for them. They have a very special place in the hearts of the brethren and residents of Marsh Harbour. We continue to pray that there will be others who will follow their lead.
Dinah and I have traveled some in Florida and had the opportunity of being with the brethren at Highlands in Lakeland, Florida, Clewiston, Florida ( We were also with brethren from Bedford in Shelbyville, TN. and Wynne Arkansas while there) We worshiped with the brethren at West Broward in Ft. Lauderdale and picked up 10 boxes of materials given to help with youth groups in the Islands. We also had a breakfast meeting with the elders and mission committee from the Palm Beach Lakes congregation in West Palm Beach, Florida. They are doing a VBS in Marsh Harbour in the summer.
Jason and Katrinka Quashie have moved into the house that they bought in a little settlement south of Marsh Harbour. They got a good deal on the house and it was much less expensive than houses in town. They have a lot of work to do to finish it, but are getting settled. Plans are being made for several groups who will come to Marsh Harbour this summer to conduct Vacation Bible School, do door knocking and have special emphasis week-ends. We are ready to begin the erecting of the steel building as soon as we get the permit. It is and has been in the hands of the town planning committee for some time.
Jan and Kathy Blackwell and Mary Gosnell from West Broward in Ft. Lauderdale came to Marsh and spent a Saturday evening and Sunday morning doing a special PowerPoint presentation on the Crucifixion. He did a great job and was well received. The special lessons brought in a number of visitors. Jan and Kathy plan to come out to one of our Islands each quarter at their own expense and share special week-ends. The power point projector was acting up, and gave us fits, but I was able to get it repaired as soon as we got back to the "Big Island". This tool donated by the Brethren in Wynne Arkansas has really been a great boon to our work. The West Broward group got a real taste of life in the Islands when a tire on our old van ripped. The spare was also flat and we could not find the jack. ( It was under the front seat!!) I caught a ride back to town about 7 miles and Jason came with another van, so we were soon going again. I hope to buy new tires for the van when I get back. It will be needed for the groups coming in.
The brethren in Wynne will be sending a group down to Eleuthera to work with Lincoln for the third year this summer. In addition they have been collecting special contributions to help Lincoln complete his house that he has been building on for several years. They have also had garage sales and are using the money to buy him some furniture. Then, as if that was not enough, they have pledged $300 a month to defray the expenses of someone to come in and help him on a daily bases. His nephew has gone off to college, Some of the men in the community come in early and help him shower and get him in his electric wheel chair, and then come back in the evening and get him ready for bed. He has hired a lady in the congregation to help with cleaning and typing. Thank you Wynne for your care and compassion.
Other groups will be coming to Exuma this summer. We have been able to visit some with Steve McQueen, and carried him another plane load of materials to use in the Evangelistic outreach. Also we delivered the Bibles promised to the government officials, along with Bible Study materials. We have been staying up with the progress of Mike Gurganus since his surgery and are happy to report that he is healing well. It will take some time, and there will be a lot of discomfort. He had a kidney removed early in the month. Keep Mike in your prayers.
Sandy Haney and the brethren in Lewisville have done it again. We just received 5 more boxes of WBS (World Bible School) materials for distribution. We continue to place these personally in the hands of students, collect them, grade them, issue certificates, and set personal studies. Sandy tells me that they have a large bulletin board in the entrance of their building and he collects from those who want to share. We have plans to meet and hug Sandy and Fran on this trip. My good friend Tex Williams has also promised to send us some of the newest materials to try. (Tex if you are reading this,I still have the same address!). We appreciate the value of WBS and also the opportunities presented to have home Bible Studies. The usual method of mailing has never worked well in the Islands. We are, however, thrilled with the results and the quality of students from personal contacts. Two precious souls have already been baptized.
Thank you for your continued support and your prayers.
