Bahama Mission Update
November 28, 2002
Happy Thanksgiving to you in America. We are in to Florida to pick up 450 pounds of my Drug Education books printed by Mission Printing in Arlington, Texas.
We have enjoyed a busy but delightful few days. Dinah and I made a trip to Abaco and worked on the building to freshen it up some before the Sarvers arrive on January 2nd. Dinah painted and washed slip covers, patched some holes in the men's restroom where vandals recently broke in and made a mess, and touched up paint on the walls and puppet stage. I trimmed the hedges in front and changed the oil in the plane and did some routine maintenance and gave it a good polishing and buffing. We also delivered medicine to several who have no other way of getting prescriptions from the United States.
Dinah and I then delivered Holiday Cards to many people on the Island, enjoyed a wonder couple of meals with friends and got ready for the 4th Annual Mission Day in Freeport on Sunday. (Picture Holiday Cards are a great tradition in the Islands and everyone puts them up to show, and often keep them up all year until they get new ones).
I had made a new slide show of the work in all the Islands, using my new digital camera (thanks Terri Hursey) and loaded the power point projector (thanks Wynn, Arkansas) for the early morning trip to Freeport. We arrived at about 8:30 a.m. and were met at the airport by Ellison Delva.( One of the Preachers) We enjoyed visiting with early arrivers before the long day began.
The theme this year was,"Let's Spread The Message O'er Land and Sea in 2003". Representatives were on hand from all of the congregations in the Islands. I spoke first and showed the slides to set the stage for reports from other areas. Jason Quarshie did a great job setting up the program and printing the special bulletin. The women out did themselves in preparing a gourmet meal including turkey, lobster, crab, ham and chicken with all the trimmings. We all ate in the new addition to the back of the building. There were 206 in attendance. Speakers included Lincoln Young, McDonald Burrows, Bill Miller, Andrew Major, Glen Pratt, and Raymond Christopher. Reports were used from Alex Altidor from Haiti and Dereck Turnquest sent a video tape. We worshiped, shared and visited until after 6 p.m. I was able to deliver my Dad's last book on Greek Word Studies (500 pages) to all of the preachers I had missed at the Manpower 2002 program in Nassau last week.
Dinah and I were bone tired and it was too late to fly back to Abaco. There is no non-emergency flying in the Bahamas. Brent Ingraham who is one of the department managers at Crown Plaza Resorts got us a nice room for the night at 50% discount. We were asleep early. At 9 a.m. next morning Dick and Beverly came over to have breakfast with us at the resort. We had a nice long visit. They are planning to return to California in February after almost 23 years of Mission Work in the Islands. We are all very thankful for the great contribution they have made over the years.
They took us to airport and we had an uneventful flight back to Abaco. There is always work to do at every stop. Lincoln Young calls us "Homeless People" since we move from place to place all of the time. I conducted clinics a couple of times and we loaded supplies to be taken to Eleuthera next week.I will work with Lincoln for a day, and then fly us both to Nassau where we will work together in a week-end meeting with Andrew Major at the Central congregation December 8th. The Manpower 2002 tapes will be rebroadcast to the Nation Sunday December 8th and 15th in prime time from 3 to 5 p.m. The "Untold Stories" group in Nassau are to be congratulated for the special efforts made to let the whole nation hear these vital lessons and panel discussions.
Very Important is the fact that the Caribbean Lectureship 2003 will be held in Nassau on July 13-16. This will be followed by a Gospel Meeting at Highbury Park with Thaddeus Bruno. This dynamic Caribbean Preacher will speak on the theme, "Preaching the Old Time Gospel In a Troubled World". Last year this program had more than 500 people from the Caribbean, as well as many American visitors. Bill Miller is the Director this year and has made arrangements to hold the programs and house the people at the Nassau Marriot Resort and Crystal Palace. This is a 867 room facility so there will be room for you. The Theme is, "God's People In A Troubled World". For additional information, reservations, prices etc. Please Contact Bill Miller or call 1-242-393-2468 or 393-6041.

Our good friend Jerry Pickup has had an ox in the ditch for some time, but has recently updated some material on the web page. I will try and get with him soon and make e-mail contact corrections and change out some of the old pictures and get them up to date as well. We even have a good picture of Dinah and me with Jerry so you can see who does all of the work!
Thank you for your support and prayers.
