Bahama Mission
November and December 2002

Since we have been sending out the e-mail updates, we seem to be slow in getting the mailed reports written. If you have access to e-mail and would like to receive the regular updates, please write me at david@flyingpreacher.com and we will put you on the list. We also encourage you to look at our web page for updates and pictures. The Caribbean Lectureship will be in Nassau this year and details are also on the web page.

We have been involved in holding a number of short special week-end meetings on various Islands. Bibles have been delivered to schools, tracts for distribution have been hauled and stockpiled, Books for our preachers and teachers have been delivered. Studies have been taught and we have had a number of baptisms.

Most of the congregations had year end prayer meetings and plans have been formulated for various programs locally and in outreach to the smaller populated Islands. We continue to be thrilled at the spiritual growth of the Island members and the many projects that they are engaging in as they evangelize among their own.

A number of special contributions were given to help with building additions and or renovations in several of the Islands. We are just about caught up from the damage done by the last Hurricane to hit us. Lincoln Young hopes to finish the outside painting on the building in Rock Sound soon. We have a number of evangelistic programs going at this time. He is spending time with youth and parents on Drug and Alcohol Abuse, and we will start the Bible film series as soon as the paint dries. The brethren in Long Island are making progress on their restroom project and are very proud of the fact that they have done all of the labor themselves on Saturdays and holidays. Freeport has moved into their new addition at the back of their building. We have with the help of Bill Love (elder at Gulf Coast, Ft. Myers) completed the repair work on the lights in Marsh Harbour, and we have replaced the two back doors that had rotted away. Dinah plans to paint them with final coats this week. Also two contributions were given to allow us to buy more Bibles to keep the outreach to the schools going.

There are tasks still to be completed in Rock Sound. We did paint the communion trays gold, and Dinah got a final coat of paint on the ceiling in the restrooms. We will add new light bulbs this week along with the final bulletin board.

Jason and Katrinka Quashie have been secured to move to Marsh Harbour from Freeport. He will be the new preacher. Both the Quashie family and the Marsh Habour congregation are thrilled with the prospects for the future. The Frank Sarvers are now in Abaco for their eleventh year of ten week sojourns. They always work hard, teach a lot of studies, and lend a strength and encouragement to the congregation.

Dinah and I have had opportunity to visit with several of our supporting congregations and have more planned in the spring. We believe that it is necessary to keep the lines of communication open as we work together in this common Cause.

There are always things that have to be done to keep the plane in good working order and to add to the safety. Our life raft finally failed inspection and a new one had to be bought. I guess that 21 years is a pretty good life for a rubber raft! The expense is heavy, our hope and prayer is that it will never be needed, but it lends a measure of security as you fly over the ocean. Somehow even a small yellow raft seems better than swimming with the sharks. We have put new tires and continue to do 50 checks on the plane. We were reminded of the need for all of this when we lost 3 neighbors from Marsh Harbour in the crash of US Airways Express flight 5881 January 8th.

Many of you are taking advantage of opportunities of contributing to our Memorial/Honors Fund. This gives you cause to touch lives of families in time of need, and provide a lasting memorial is provided as we use these funds to establish new congregations.

Like many of you, Dinah and I have been dealing with health problems with members of our families. We appreciate so very much your prayers on our behalf.

Thank you again for your prayers and support. Checks can be made to:
