Bahama Mission
April 1999

We have been overwhelmed by the response to the repayment of the loan for the aircraft. At this time we are close to meeting the goal. We are still flying on the handheld back-up GPS (Global Positioning System) navigational receiver. Our plan is to have the panel mounted unit installed during the middle of June. This will give us the safety margin needed to fly over the ocean and into the areas that have no other pilot helps. Thank you for your sacrifice and for the concern that you show in reaching out so that others may know of the hope of heaven.

The new plane is working out well. I have been very busy in catching up after the crash, and also stocking each Island with printed materials before making a trip to Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana and Texas to make reports to the various congregations and individuals who share in our work together. When we get back to the Bahamas, we will be able to make fewer trips to accomplish the movement of the same loads.

We recently delivered song books donated by Crockett, Texas to brethren in Cat and Long Island. We will also take the remainder to San Salvador. On our way home we will stop in Auburn, Alabama to see our son Jason graduate from the University, and to pick up the remaining eight boxes of song books and Bibles that they have donated.

Our opportunites to teach in the schools continue to grow. Not only do we conduct our programs in Drug and Alcohol Abuse, but share New Testaments, Bibles, and studies with the students and teachers.

It was exciting to be with the Church in Long Island for the celebration of one year in the building since it was rebuilt after the hurricane. We enjoy the warm relationship with the brethren in all of these Islands.

We will be in Abaco for Father's Day in a special effort with the Marsh Harbour Church. I am preparing the introduction and outro for the new local radio program sponsored by this congregation. They are using tapes supplieD by the Sunset International Bible School in Lubbock. We will offer a free New Testament and my bible study, "What all Mankind Should Know", to any of the listeners who will respond by mail or phone. These will be delivered by the members with efforts to involve them in the study of the Word.

The Southwestern Church in Nassau where Clyde Symonnette preaches sponsored a great seminar on Home and Family. Jerry and Lynn Jones conducted this effort. Help with home and family is a universal need. The Bahamas is no exception. 85% of our children are born out of wedlock. The participation from the other congregations in Nassau was wonderful.

A new congregation is now meeting in Nassau. A number of the young professionals at Highbury learned to speak Creole, and began working with the Haitians who live in the city. They have also formed a small singing group and it is exciting to hear them singing old familiar songs and hymns in Creole. I am thrilled that these folks not only want to reach their own nation, but have learned another language in order to reach out to those who live among them. The Elders at Highbury Park are leading in some remodeling work on the building and have closed in the balcony and sound proofed it so that it can be used at the same time on Sunday as the English speaking congregation meets. Brothers Sagesse and Motzart are doing the preaching and they are growing . One of the elders at Highbury Park said that they miss the harmonizing accapella singing that used to float down like a melodious breeze to the English Worshipers below as the two services ran concurrently.

Dinah's mother suffered a stroke about a month ago. She is doing very well as she works through her therapy. Dinah flew up to St. Louis and spent a week with her. Not being near our parents as they and we grow older is one of the difficult things about living in another land. We are most thankful for all of the prayers. Please continue to remember her as she recovers.

Thank you for your response to the Memorials/Honors fund and the effort to use this money in the establishing of new congregations starting with San Salvador. Be sure and mark checks to this work, and include the name and address of the family so that we can make the appropriate response to them and to you.

Remember our e-mail address: flyingpreacher@mindspring.com and our Web Page: http://www.mindspring.com/~flyingpreacher/. We have added some pictures of the buildings in the Bahamas, and names, addresses, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses for those of you who might be traveling to the Bahamas and need a contact.

Thank you for your support and prayers. Checks can be written to Bahama Mission Church of Christ and sent:
